We were lucky enough to spend this past Christmas in London with my side of the family: Mom and Dad, my 2 sisters and their families. It gave us a chance to do some photo-journalistic family photography on the streets and underground of London. We decided to make it all about film, photographing the entire trip with our Rolleiflex 2.8e on our favorite film, Ilford HP5. We’ve still got more to print so look for more London images soon. – Dave

This street portrait of Natlaie in Leigh on Sea was photographed with a Rolleiflex 2.8e on Ilford hp5 medium format film.
One of my favorites. Street portrait of Natalie working with the Nikon D800. One of the great things about photographing with the Rolleiflex is how quiet and unassuming it is.
Documentary street portrait of Grandma and Sydney finding the next stop on the London Underground. Portrait photographed with a Rolleiflex 2.8e on Ilford HP5 120 film.
Documentary portrait of Grandma and Sydney finding the next stop on the London Underground. I’m pretty sure this was the District line. I had them framed up in the Rolleiflex viewfinder and was waiting for the right moment when Syd rested her head on Grandma’s shoulder. Couldn’t have directed it any better! Another advantage of shooting with the Rolleiflex, you can shoot at slower shutter speeds in low-light and still get sharp images.

Night photograph of a london cabbie driving near Oxford Circus (I think). I love the dramatic light and motion created from the moving cab.

Documentary street portrait of Natalie on a london walking tour. This was the first day after arriving and Natalie is very jet lagged. Portrait photographed with a Rolleiflex 2.8e on Ilford HP5 120 film.
Street portrait of Natalie, Auntie Shelley and Auntie Lori on a london walking tour. This was the first day after arriving and Natalie is very jet lagged. Again, the unassuming nature of the Rolleiflex lets us capture these quiet moments. The Rolleiflex is really a wonderful camera for street photography.
